Leadership that matters – when it matters most.

BCP Council is seeking an experienced senior manager to lead the delivery of coronial and mortuary services across Dorset. This is a high‑profile statutory role at the heart of public service, supporting the Coroner and other professional staff to deliver dignified outcomes for bereaved families.

The role

You’ll be the senior operational lead for the Coroners Service and Mortuary Service, working closely with the Senior Coroner and key partners including Dorset Council, Dorset Police and health services. As the business manager you’ll ensure services are compliant, efficient and responsive, even in the most challenging circumstances.

From leading and supporting a skilled workforce, managing contracts and budgets, IT support and acting as a Human Tissue Authority licence holder, to playing a critical role in emergency planning for excess deaths and mass fatality incidents – this is a role with real responsibility and real impact and requires a high degree of business administration experience .

About you

You are:

  • An experienced leader in coronial and mortuary services
  • Calm, credible and confident under pressure
  • Skilled in managing people, performance and complex stakeholder relationships
  • Compassionate, resilient and professionally grounded
  • Committed to the highest standards of public service and governance
  • You’ll have relevant qualification‑level experience and be willing to complete formal coronial law training if not already undertaken.
  • Experience of managing a complex business operation and competence with new software packages.

Why BCP Council?

  • Meaningful work that makes a difference to people’s lives
  • A supportive, values‑led organisation
  • Opportunities for development and progression
  • Flexible working where operationally possible
  • Generous local government pension and benefits

If you’re ready to lead a service that combines statutory responsibility, operational challenge and human compassion, we’d like to hear from you.
