Starting salary for this role is £34,434  (pro rata for part-time colleagues)

Your new role

An opportunity has arisen for a Traffic Data Technician to join the Transport Policy Team. The Transport Policy Team is specifically responsible for preparing the Local Transport Plan (LTP) and supporting policies and strategies. 

The successful applicant will work within the Transport Policy Team to collect and manage data for a range of transport modes including walking, cycling, scooting and public transport. You will analyse data, maintain and administer a transport database, undertake research, and assist with the production of reports to senior officers, council members and external partners. You will help monitor the delivery of our LTP objectives and our strategic transport schemes. 

We are looking for someone who has a good knowledge of transport data sources and methodologies, as well as the work practices, processes and procedures relevant to data collection. 

The successful applicant will have a strong track record of analysing and interpreting complex transport data and information and will be able to confidently present often complex technical information in an accessible way to a range of audiences 

In order to be successful in the role, you will need:

  • A relevant degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Knowledge or experience of data collection, database management, data analysis and interpretation
  • Experience of procuring third party services for data collection purposes
  • Strong ICT skills, including GIS mapping applications and other programmes relevant to the role (such as PowerBI). 
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and an ability to present complex, technical information to a wide range of audiences 
  • Ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders, suppliers, and partners to influence and achieve organisational outcomes.
  • Ability to analyse the way things are done and recommend, create and implement improved and more effective ways of working
  • Ability to plan and organise your own workload in an environment or regularly changing demands and challenging deadlines
  • Ability to make evidence-based and outcome focused decisions using proactive risk management and general guidance provided in set procedures.
